What’s Good This Week: Dior’s Holiday Film, Supreme X Vaquera And More

Words by

Jotaro Joden

These are the menswear happenings to have on your radar, including Burberry’s British Christmas gathering, Nike and Carhartt’s reunion and UGG’s generous festive spirit.

Dior celebrates the holiday season with a film

Narrated by Robert Pattinson and directed by Sylvian Chomet, the French House’s animated “Night In Color” highlights moments from the brand’s history like Christian Dior’s friendship with Marlene Dietrich, Dior’s connection to Hollywood and the design of the iconic Junon dress from 1949. The star-studded roster features friends of the label, including Louis Garrel as Christian Dior, Josh O’Connor as The Chair, LaKeith Stanfield as Ron The Director and Rihanna as The Lucky Star. The award-winning French director’s distinctive hand-drawn animation uses techniques that date back to the 1940s, showcasing richness and detail in Monsieur Dior’s lifetime.

Burberry gets into the festive spirit

The British heritage label celebrates 170 years with a holiday campaign that highlights a traditional Christmas gathering in the UK. Featuring Pierce Brosnan and Fiona Shaw, amongst other special guests, the narrative sees the characters engage in a plethora of festive activities, from party games and exchanging gifts to golf buggy races and countryside walks in Wiltshire. Check out the campaign here.

Dior unveils its Ribbon sneakers

Reimagining a classic running silhouette, Dior’s Jonathan Anderson adds a contemporary feel to this retro runner. Dubbed the Ribbon sneakers, they feature very familiar markings, like its suede panelling and low-profile midsole, for a minimal look that still stands out thanks to the emblematic Dior branding on the side, with “30 Avenue Montaigne” embossed – a nod to the flagship store in Paris. Check them out in-store and online now.

Asics and Story mfg reunite to follow its own path

After their resoundingly successful debut collaboration last year, the Japanese sportswear label and Brighton-based brand come together for the latest GEL-TRANSCEND FJ. Arriving in two colourways, both feature Story mfg’s signature check, like their last collaborative effort, along with synthetic leather overlays over a mesh upper. Releasing on the 11th November, make sure to keep your eyes peeled online and in-store.

Nike and Carhartt WIP run it back after eight years

Inspired by their shared affinity for modern utility and purposeful design, Nike and Carhartt WIP reunite for an exclusive capsule featuring the Air Max Goadome Low WIP. They’ll be arriving in three colourways, including the workwear brand’s signature green. The apparel perfectly embodies the icons of both brands through the Windrunner Active Jacket and the Windrunner Drewe Pant, as well as a heavyweight hoodie and a selection of t-shirts rounding out the collection. Check out the collab on the 20th November, releasing globally online and in-store.

Supreme and Vaquera’s doing it for the boys and girls

As the New York skate brand’s hot streak of collaborations keeps rolling, it teams up with another Big Apple native, Vaquera, for a capsule made for the “outsiders”. The collection builds on the latter’s distinct “fashion fan-fiction” ideas, putting that perspective onto a series of zip graphic hoodies, collage long sleeves and jeans, graphic T-shirts, a New Era fitted hat and a duvet and pillow cover set. Discover the offering now, available online and in-store.

UGG is feeling generous

As one of the most gifted footwear brands of the holiday season, UGG explores the joys of exchanging presents with a star-studded lineup that includes Lunay, Yeat and JT. Titled “Gift the Feeling”, it’s less about what’s inside the present and a lot more about the emotions that surround this act: the laughter, surprise and connection that unfolds when a gift is given.

Puma teams up with Jiyong Kim

Drawing on the South Korean label’s approach to natural ageing and worn-out materials, Jiyong Kim puts its touches on the CELL Geo model for a weathered look on a modern silhouette. Arriving in lived-in black and white colourways, Kim’s distressed tendencies show in the shoe’s upper that feature frayed edges and laces and already dirtied scuffs that even make it onto the signature CELL heel unit. Check them out on the 7th November, dropping online and in-store.
