The Subway Series may be a heated Big Apple rivalry, but ’47 celebrates both sides with its latest collection.
The rivalry between the New York Mets and New York Yankees, known as the Subway Series (named after the easy accessibility of games for fans on the city’s train transport system) is strong. It’s so potent in fact, that it can divide friendships and neighbourhoods when they meet. But one thing both sides do agree on is a very killer merch.
American sports and apparel brand ’47 makes official kits and merchandise for both teams. And now it’s paying tribute to each side and their shared World Series feats. Aptly titled the “Subway Series” it brings together the two teams’ storied franchises and anniversary milestones. And they’ve tapped MLB Pitcher Dwight Gooden, who has played for both the Mets (1984-94) and Yankees (during the 1996, 1997, 2000 seasons) to draw on the shared history, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Yankees’ 1996 championship season and 40 years since the Mets’ 1986 championship win.

All this history gets reflected in a series of campaign shots showing Gooden rocking clothing and headwear from both teams while wearing a World Series championship ring for a personal tie to the collection. As for products, there's a mix of ball caps, pill box caps, hoodies, and sweatshirts. But the best bit is the lived-in, gamed-day ready vibe that comes with the hint of wear present on the caps – primed for beating to the ground.
Because the best merch is the merch you wear over and over. Just see Jeremy Allen White’s trusty Mets cap worn and thrashed to the ground as a hallmark of his beater style, or the stream of high-profile Yankees hats sat atop of editors’ crowns at Paris Fashion Week. And whether you’ve earned your patina sweating it out supporting your team on either side of the Subway Series divide, or you’re just down to tap into a slice of the Big Apple’s baseball rivalry for your wardrobe, there’s something in this ’47’s Subway Series for you.
