In a stream of fit pics, the Australian musician rocked an especially potent piece of high fashion knitwear.
Troye Sivan is a stylish guy. He’s flying the flag for Prada officially. He rocked a black Altu slip dress with towering Rick Owens Kiss Boots to the Met Gala in 2021. And he dropped a stacked run of fits in his “She’s the Best” music video which featured Nicole Kidman. But in a recent photo dump shared to Instagram by his stylist Marc Forne, he showed his fluency in scoring very sought-after knitwear, too.
The piece in question? Oh that’s just the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus leopard print sweater vest from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway collection. So you know, quite major stuff. It’s a little cropped, features a scooped neck, and is finished off with green, blue, and pink piping – kind of like a cricket sweater on acid.
Back in 2018, this was one of the coolest things you could wear if you could actually find one. It cropped up on stylish dudes like A$AP Nast (a devout Comme head), and now pop up on resale sites like Grailed for $500 (approximately £367). If you’re into Comme des Garçons, it’s a great example of the brand’s trademark subversion, taking a very preppy item like the sweater vest, and tipping it on its head with a tripped out animal print pattern. On the runway it featured a collection of inside-out garments worn by a cast of raving models which helped send home the message that “what’s on the inside matters”.
So yes, it’s hyped. But Sivan didn’t just show that he can get his hands on this grail (that comes with the territory of being a very famous dude with a tapped-in stylist like Marc Forne working with you). He rocked it with a structured three-button single-breasted jacket, pooling brown trousers, and black leather lace-ups. The look leans quite heavily into what’s going on in men’s fashion right now, where prep is returning and colours are livening up. Across the Spring/Summer 2027 shows in Milan and Paris, Ralph Lauren brought heavy frat boy-tinged Americana, Celine celebrated the pleasure that comes from a wardrobe of deeply wearable and cherishable bangers, including patterned sweater vests, and Auralee delivered a colour-soaked office-to-vacay unpacking of how guys dress in the wild.
Dropping in these archival grails is the work of a true fit guru. And Sivan is throwing down A* looks. To add to things, he’s doing a stellar job of charging the batteries on 2010s grails in the process while he’s at it.
