“I Have Erotic Dreams About The Prawn Caesar Salad At The Four Seasons In Vegas”: Friends Of Man About Town On Their Perfect Holiday

Words by

Jotaro Joden

As the fashion industry downs tools for August, Jake Shane, Damian Hurley, Lyas, Daniel W Fletcher and more guide us through their vacation go-tos.

August might be the last month of meteorological summer, but in the fashion world it's when the season only truly hits its stride. The coming four weeks comprise the industry’s holiday month – a time where Out of Office replies ricochet between fashion capitals, creative directors swap the atelier for their favourite vacation haunts, and the chaos of September’s upcoming shows is obscured by sunsets at hand.

As Rimowas descend on airport lounges, we gather friends of Man About Town to share their vacation know-how. From the drink they’ll remain loyal to at the beach bar, the holiday view they’ve never forgotten, the cuisine that lingers in their memory through winter and their stance on the budgie smuggler – head below to read, now!

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

Shorts. Alo, honestly – they are so breathable. I know they are gonna fit me, and I hate my legs.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Strawberry Daiquiri.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

St Tropez

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

Butter pasta in St Tropez. Am I lame? It was that fucking good.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Whatever he feels good in.

Kit Price

Model, TikToker

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

Swim shorts – Burberry.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Piña colada.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

Langkawi sunsets have never missed.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

Any Thai food I've ever had in Thailand.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Baggy linen and flip-flops.

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

I firmly believe all budgie smugglers should be burnt. I’m a slave for Orlebar Brown shorts. I stole all my dad's from the early 2000s and wear them religiously.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

I haven’t had a drink in five years, but a mango smoothie hates to see me coming.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

Reethi Rah in the Maldives lives rent-free in my mind. I took a time-lapse of a sunset there last year and watch it whenever I feel overwhelmed and need to breathe and remember how magical life is.

The best meal you've ever eaten on holiday?

I have erotic dreams about the prawn Caesar salad at The Four Seasons in Vegas. And the pepperoni pizza at Frangipani in Mumbai – where I grew up – is to die for.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Preferably nothing.

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

Shorts, but open to skinny dipping if it’s the right time and place. I’ve got some black classic Prada swim shorts that have lasted forever.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Water, water, water. Lots of it. The sun really zonks me out, so I guzzle Voss or Fiji to stay hydrated.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

I stayed at the Six Senses in Koh Yao Noi a few years ago, and I reckon that's the best bay view in Thailand. I love their resorts, all that barefoot luxury – very me.

The best meal you've ever eaten on holiday?

I love the abundance of a posh hotel buffet. The Wynn in Vegas is an incredible camp, and the food is top quality. I had to drink half a bottle of Gaviscon after that.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

A skirt or a sarong. Let it breathe.

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

Budgie smugglers, specifically the Lido Brief from Ruxwood.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Vodka Diet Coke. Everywhere, always.

The best meal you've ever eaten on holiday?

Poutine. As a half-Canadian, it’s my fav food, and when I get to visit Canada I can’t leave without it.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Less than you think. Confidence covers the rest!

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

I don’t know what a budgie smuggler is, but it sounds gay. Shorts are ok.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Ricard all the way.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

The one I dreamt about last night. It was a Sicilian beach at sunset as a total solar eclipse happened, quickly followed by meteor rain.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

I love fish. So it would be the juiciest sea bass ever, and that was in Cannes at the Carlton.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Nothing. Let dusk wrap its fabric around you.

Daniel W Fletcher

Creative director of MITHRIDATE

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

It’s Tom Ford swim shorts for me. I’ve got PTSD from primary school swimming lessons being forced to wear speedos and I can’t go back.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

I’m a cosmopolitan boy!

The beach view that has never left your mind?

Not quite the summer vacay vibe, but I visited Antarctica last year and will never forget the view of the icebergs stood on the volcanic black sands there.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

Nothing can beat the food on the Orient Express. How they achieved that on a moving train is beyond me.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

Less is more after sunset, but you also can’t go wrong with a silk shirt.

Editor, creative director

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

My speedo days are behind me. Now I enjoy a Tom Ford swim short.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

It really depends on where I am. A strong rum punch in the Caribbean is always good. Or a jug of Falanghina wine with peaches on the Amalfi Coast.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

The sunset from a hammock on Moonhole beach in Bequia is hard to beat.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

I still think about one spaghetti alle vongole I had as a child in Tuscany.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

A deep tan.

Harry Collett

Actor

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

Shorts. Levi’s denim shorts, for example.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

Frozen strawberry daiquiri.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

Mijas in Spain, while sitting at Antonio’s restaurant, listening to the waves and watching the sunset.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

Has to be garlic prawns in the oil.

What should a man wear after sunset when it’s still 30 degrees?

I would say a linen top, with a few buttons unbuttoned ;), with linen shorts to match and some breathable shoes.

Budgie smugglers or shorts?

I don't have the arse to pull off budgie smugglers, so it's shorts for me. A nice pair by CDLP.

Your beach bar tipple of choice?

A Spicy Margarita. I just need to remember to stop at four… lesson learnt.

The beach view that has never left your mind?

Playa del Amor, Zipolite, Mexico. If you know, you know.

The best meal you ever ate on holiday?

The seafood feast at Potato Head in Bali.

What should a man wear after sunset when it's still 30 degrees?

Ideally nothing, but that depends where you are. Otherwise, a pair of ’70s cut-off denim shorts and a vintage tee will always get my attention.
