Man About Town

From slick Acne Studios jeans to lux Magniberg bedding, the team share their very worthy Chrsitmas present picks for this holiday season.

Even though I feel like I say this every year, it feels like the festive season has really crept up on us. I could’ve sworn I was by the Italian coastline in the heat of summer with an Aperol Spritz in hand just last week, but alas, Christmas is well and truly around the corner. If you’re completely unprepared for gifts like so many other men at this time of year, the Man About Town team has you covered with our handpicked selections for the best presents to give to your friends and loved ones.

C.P. Company leather Mille Mille Goggle jacket

I first caught sight of this jacket when Matt Smith wore it to the London premiere of The Death Of Bunny Munroe. And it’s had me in a chokehold ever since. So, if you do feel like unleashing your menswear villain this festive season, you know where to look.

Dennison ALD Sunray in black

I’ve always subscribed to the mantra that a watch’s sickness is not linked to its price. And Dennison’s slinky ALD line is a testament to that. With a flush cushion-shaped case, leather strap, and no-nonsense time-only display, you’re looking at a mighty fine ticker, destined for nursing negronis in high-end restaurants. And for well under £1000, that is something I can get behind wholeheartedly, and you should, too.

Denim jackets will forever slap. But there’s no harm in remixing the classics. London-based purveyor of subtly wacky and uniquely-informed menswear Kiko Kostadinov knows this. And his brand’s latest link-up with Levi’s delivered truckers with just the right amount of weird (see: tripped-out stitching and darted seams). Peace, joy, and good jackets to everyone!

SSSTEIN Two Tuck trousers

The hunt for legwear perfection isn’t much, but it’s honest work. And it has led to my discovery of the SSStein Two Tuck trousers. They’re a relaxed, roomy straight fit, with a double-pleat. Obviously, this makes them very swishy and deeply wearable. Throw ’em on with a boot or loafer for fancy dinners, or chuck on a pair of Vans or low-profile sneakers and a boxy knit to channel your inner art-gallery-on-the-weekend, small coffee-slurping final boss.

Village PM 1PM Sneakers

Skateboarding and rock climbing are both very cool pastimes. I don’t make the rules; they just are. So when Basile Lapray and Bram De Cleen designed a vulcanised skate sneaker that borrowed from the design of a climbing shoe, the ingredients for footwear gold were there. The Village PM 1PM is exactly that, designed for skating, but also sleek and easy-wearing enough to crush it everywhere (I won’t judge you if you can’t kickflip, I promise).

One of the greatest bands of all time is commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the release of one of their seminal records, Wish You Were Here, with a broad and eye-catching new collection. There are all sorts available for varying price points – from Vinyls to CDs, T-Shirts to Notepads.

AIAIAI x Blood Orange TMA-2 Wireless

Creative savant Dev Hynes – or Blood Orange – this year cemented his name as one of the most innovative and influential artists with his fifth studio album, Essex Honey. Brushing his influence into the audio sphere, he has reimagined two of Danish tech brand AIAIAI’s ubiquitous products. The TMA-2 Wireless are particularly stunning – a unique and not too expensive foray into high-quality headphones.

Funky Cellar Wine and Cheese Tasting

For me, experiences often outweigh the physical. And what better way to spend a few hours than sharing good quality wine and cheese with a loved one a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool Street? The perfect couples gift.

KEF Coda W Wireless HiFi Speaker

This is one for the classiest of vinyl listeners. British audio brand KEF’s latest jack-of-all-trades speaker system is a brilliant piece of kit. Turntable ready, with an integrated phono pre-amplifier that works with pretty much any turntable without any additional equipment or faff. It’s not cheap, but if you’re looking for something top-tier and long-term, this is your bet.

Whisky, but clear? How is that possible? I won’t bore you with the technicals, but just know that this new drop from the esteemed Scotch Whisky house Chivas Regal has just ripped up the rulebook with the Crystalgold. Whether enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, it’s damn delicious.

Husbands Paris Zipped Boots

Nowadays, there’s an abundance of zip boot options that have flooded the market ever since the Our Legacy Camions have had the menswear space in a chokehold but these Husbands Paris boots really stand out. The elevated heel and the chic, rounded toe on a supple calfskin upper is everything I want this Christmas.

Acne Studios 2010M Jeans

Man About Town

Courtesy of Acne Studios

As much as I love my baggy jeans, it’s always nice to switch things up and go for a sleeker, straighter bottom, and these jet black 2010M Jeans by Acne Studios are just what I’m looking for. Good black-on-black denim has weirdly become harder to find nowadays, too, and these really scratch that itch.

Ronning Everyday Fisherman Sweater

Man About Town

If you’ve ever seen me in the office, you’d know that I’m not a man of colour. However, that doesn’t mean my all-black uniform has the strictest of rules, and I’m willing to make an exception for this Ronning Everyday Fisherman Sweater. This lilac colour’s been stuck in my mind for weeks now. What better way to celebrate Christmas than with a cosy sweater?

Le Labo YLANG 49

There’s nothing like smelling a fragrance and instantly falling in love with it. That’s exactly what happened with me and this Le Labo fragrance, with a perfectly subtle floral scent that I knew would be fit for the everyday rotation.

Loewe Midi Sweet Almond Candle

Anything almond-scented and I’m sold. Now add that scent to a Loewe candle, and I’m instantly adding it to my wishlist.

Balenciaga Rodeo Handbag

Computer? Check. Keys with a keychain are way too cumbersome for their own good? Check. Personal and work phone? Check. Current book on rotation? Check. And all the other junk that always seems to accumulate into whichever bag I wear on any chosen day? Check. What more could you want out of a bag’s capacity?

IDEA Davide Sorenti Journals

If there’s one thing I certainly don’t need, it’s another addition to my overflowing stack of coffee table books. And yet, when I saw this new Davide Sorrenti publication, a posthumous book curated by his mother, Francesca Sorrenti, I knew I needed it.

Jean Paul Gaultier Silver ‘The Piercing’ Ring

I stopped wearing rings over the summer due to being overstimulated by them. But with this Jean Paul Gaultier number, I’m ready to be overstimulated all over again.

Magniberg “Wall Street” Duvet Cover

There are a few stances that I’m unwavering on as we depart 2025. Calum Turner is, and has always been, the only suitable option for the vacant Bond role. Putting one’s Christmas tree up in early November isn’t tacky but simply joy preservation in these uneven political times. People who can but choose not to scrub their feet in the shower every day should be put on a time-out. And when it comes to gift-giving, finding luxurious versions of daily essential items for the ones we love is the supreme way to go. We all know that starting the week off with fresh bedding is a surefire way to hit the ground running, but when it comes to entering the new year with the required panache, you need a set with that little bit extra. That’s where Magniberg’s “Wall Street” duvet cover clocks in. The patchwork homage to the shirting of 1980s NYC trading floor personnel is 100% Pima cotton, free from harmful chemicals and the only time I would let finance bro stylings enter my home – so that means it must be special!

They All Came to Barneys by Gene Pressman

Man About Town

It’s not exactly a purist view of the meaning of Christmas, but I’ve rarely seen the festive spirit in fuller flow than in an old-school department store in December. That scene where Alan Rickman buys the necklace for his secretary in Love Actually is an emotional affront, but, infidelity aside, you would be lying if you said you didn’t want to step into the TV for a mooch around that buzzy shop floor. In They All Came to Barneys: A Personal History of the World’s Greatest Store, Gene Pressman grants a fly-on-the-wall view of one of the ultimate multi-level shopping experiences there ever was – New York institution, Barneys. The grandson of the store’s founder, Barney Pressman, Gene documents the rise and demise of the 20th century icon of cool – from the many celebrities who passed its threshold (Madonna, Iman, Andy Warhol, Rihanna) to the bankruptcy that led to its permanent 2020 closure. That Chrimbo-limbo period between the big day and NYE requires strong reading material, so insert this in your loved one’s stocking to keep them afloat!

Ottolenghi Jam

Man About Town

This might seem like a curveball, but take it as a continuation of my philosophy for shopping the essentials for those you hold dearest and it all adds up. Do you know someone who likes a scrape of jam on their sourdough? The answer is likely yes. So if you want a stocking filler or a low-key but thoughtful gift for the office secret santa, the jarred offerings of the culinary king of elegance Yotam Ottolenghi have got you covered. Many people might stretch the budget in their grocery shop to a Bonne Maman conserve – but few would seek out a Lemon and Vanilla marmalade, a raspberry and rosewater jam, or a strawberry and sumac number for that matter. There’s few for whom that wouldn’t make their January mornings a bit less solemn, so gift it to yourself or that family member who always has a loaf to hand.

SHISEIDO Men Total Revitalizer Cream 50ml Gift Set

Sometimes, when I reflect on the cumulative contributions of my SHISEIDO skincare across the year I get a bit teary-eyed. The way it’s rallied my skin on a sleep-deprived Monday morning or after an inhumane spell of cold weather should be studied for miracle properties. So it’s only right that you grant that experience to others. The skincare legend’s Men Total Revitalizer offering is the perfect induction to the brand for the slightly older man in your life. The Revitalizer Cream, Face Wash and Eye Cream promise a “fresh and energised appearance” and will rewrite any troubled legacy of toiletry gift sets that might persist within your household – those Lynx multipacks worked hard, but this works harder!
