Lubalin’s meteoric rise began with a series of wildly inventive and viral parody videos on TikTok, catapulting him to overnight stardom. It marked a whirlwind success story that earned him US TV appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Kelly Clarkson Show as well as as a host of high-profile brand partnerships. And it tuned the world into his musical prowess – showcased with boundless creative versatility on 2020 self-titled debut EP “Lubalin” and the string of singles that followed.
Now, he embarks on a bold and transformative artistic journey, elevating into debut album territory with haha, no worries, an intricate exploration of identity, through masterful songwriting and production, blending the nostalgic allure of 2000s soft pop with cinematic and emotionally resonant soundscapes. haha, no worries is a richly textured culmination of years of experimentation and collaboration with his long-term creative partners, six-time JUNO-winning artist Charlotte Cardin and her production collaborator Jason Brando. It is a deeply introspective and poetic work that delves into themes of connection, identity, introspection and self-doubt.
Opening track, “dog”, sets the tone with a vibrant fusion of frenetic electro-pop and nuanced, laid-back indie alt-rock influences. From there, the project unfolds as a captivating sonic journey, featuring the reflective lyricism of “bullet time” and the soaring, heartfelt nostalgia of “aerodynamics”. The lead single, “pale blue dot”, acts as a dazzling centrepiece, combining lush instrumental arrangements, evocative vocals and vivid lyricism. Together, these elements establish haha, no worries as a dexterous and unforgettable mission statement in Lubalin’s evolving discography.
