“The journey of Rick Hatchett is so sad. He is in such an arrested state of development right out of the gate with no explanation for why he's there or why he's feeling this way. That scared me. And when everybody else was having a really good time on set in these lighter days, I never did that. I never gave myself permission to. For the most part,  I was just off in a corner by myself. It was lonely, it was carrying around a sadness that I have experienced in my own life for a three-year stretch. So I know the weight of that.”
