Nicholas Tan might just have one of fashion’s most eclectic CVs. He spent his teenage years scoring gold medals on Singapore’s national swim team, before a stint at Harvard University and a history-making modelling career — becoming the first Southeast Asian man to front a global Dolce & Gabbana campaign.
It’s all been leading up to his latest chapter, however, as he architects Aupen: the luxury accessories brand quickly renowned for its signature asymmetrical bags, on the wrists of, seemingly, all of the world’s most famous women — Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, to name but a few. Tan’s trajectory has always ultimately pointed in one direction – skyward – but now, having arrived at fashion’s apex, he’s finally pausing to take in the view. Covering our Spring/Summer 2025 issue, he talks making it on the global stage, his brand’s values, how celebrity love for Aupen has impacted its success and collaborating with LVMH through the Métiers d’Art initiative.
