Soaring onto the global stage in what seems to be one of Netflix’s most talked about shows, memes and all, British actor Lucien Laviscount joined the entourage for the second iteration of Emily in Paris, which got the internet really talking. On grappling with the show’s colossal reception, and establishing his early hunger to perform, we caught up with the 29-year-old to discuss the fanfare behind the show and what comes next for Lucien.
On joining the line-up for Emily in Paris Season Two
It was like being the new kid at school. It came with all this pressure and whatnot, but I think honestly, since the very first minute I met Lily, that just killed all of the nerves. She was so welcoming with open arms and I think that really filters down for the rest of the cast and crew. Her vibe and her energy just made it so easy, which meant it was quite a nice transition. And it's always good to kind of be the new guy as it gives a fresh energy to things, and of course, I had the best time in Paris. It was my first time down there - it's like a museum with the roof blown off.
On stepping out of your comfort zone
I think being in a foreign city and working with a new crew is always going to be out of your comfort zone. You prep and you get your lines down and you play it out in your head as many ways as you think you can or whatever, but as soon as you get to set, you throw yourself into it. So I just went full Alfie mode, whatever Alfie mode is. The producers and writers were writing constantly, so as I got to set one day, they pulled me aside and would ask my opinion on taking Alfie in different directions. It was a really cool, creative process and Darren Starr, the director, allowed me to run with a few things myself.
Lucien Laviscount stars in the latest season of Emily in Paris. The full interview and shoot will feature in Man About Town’s SS22 issue.
