Our Legacy x C.P. Company Is For The Archive Heads

“Everything from the bottom up is recognisable”: Our Legacy WORK SHOP Founder and Creative Director Jockum Hallin tells Man About Town.

With full access to the Massimo Osti and C.P. Company archives in Bologna, there were many different ways Our Legacy WORK SHOP Creative Director Jockum Hallin could have taken his collaboration.

Instead of dipping into the hyper-functional sportswear the brand is known for today, he explored the razor-sharp minimalism C.P. Company dished-up in the ’90s, and delved into the brand’s tailoring legacy, drawn to suiting cut in a workwear-ish build.

“We felt [drawn to] the tailored side, with the rich colour palette, and bringing it into our pigment dye techniques,” Hallin shared with Man About Town ahead of the launch. “The C.P. Company design DNA is there, but we put it on to our silhouettes that you are familiar with today. So I think the combination was interesting.”

Intrigue is expected when you’ve got Our Legacy’s quietly tripped-out menswear meeting with the legacy of a revolutionary designer and innovator like Osti. It gives birth to the good stuff; nothing too out there, but considered, and deeply cool – the type of garment that guys want to wear.

This means pigment-dyed field jackets, leather anoraks in supple leathers, parkas, suiting, and button down shirts, made from residual fabrics from both brands. And the C.P.-isms and Our Legacy design tropes are present in equal amounts. The shirts are flowy, tees are boxy, and suits sit right into the ‘corporate punk’ vibe that Our Legacy have nailed. “Everything from bottom to top is recognisable Our Legacy signature silhouettes, from the trousers to the tailoring,” says Hallin.

But this isn’t a collaboration for the sake of making noise – that’s not how Our Legacy WORK SHOP does things. Instead, it seeks out like-minded creative partners, whose focus is on craft. This has resulted in two blockbuster Emporio Armani collections, an ongoing link-up with Stüssy that sells out upon release as well as projects with Denim Tears, Roa and Artek. C.P. Company has been on Our Legacy Work Shop’s radar for a little while for a number of reasons, from building developed garments, a lot of fabric focus and interesting shapes that remain wearable, Hallin shares.

“In a time when most collaborations seem driven by the need to make noise, it’s a relief to meet partners who share a genuine commitment to product quality, a true rarity in today’s landscape,” Enrico Grigoletti, VP of Brands at C.P. Company  shared in a statement. “This collaboration is rooted in a common understanding of C.P. Company’s heritage and takes shape through a meticulous pursuit of precision to details, contemporary fits, and material excellence.”

Our Legacy WORK SHOP’s inaugural link-up with C.P. Company is available now, and it’s the product of a lot of hard work. “The development teams have been scratching their heads,” says Hallin. “But we’ve been pushing them. It’s been, it’s been a great journey.”
