Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, Netflix’s new film The Trial of the Chicago 7 tells the story of a group of anti-Vietnam War protesters, who were charged with conspiracy and intention to incite riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Portraying prosecuting lawyer Richard Schultz, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars alongside an esteemed cast including Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Frank Langella, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Rylance.
Speaking to Seth Rogen for the cover of Man About Town, Gordon-Levitt reflects on his experience on set, themes of patriotism, police brutality and political corruption explored in the film, and why its message still feels pertinent today.
