“I feel like all of us jumped in because of our belief in [the film’s director] Jamie Childs. And I think to have your protagonist be someone that is flawed and vulnerable and not your [stereotypical] sort of action hero was such a clever move on his end. It just felt like nothing I’d ever been a part of before.”

Commanding the titular role in Jamie Childs’ debut feature Jackdaw with such dexterity, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Oliver Jackson-Cohen could tune into the character’s mind so well. Covering our Autumn/Winter 2023 issue, the actor unpacks why initially he was convinced he wasn’t actually the man for the role, winter filming days in the North Sea and how eventually he realised it was a project he couldn’t not be a part of.
