For their SS25 menswear presentation, Tod’s challenges the rise of artificial intelligence with a human-centred, quintessential ‘Made in Italy’ collection.
Words SOPHIE WANG
‘What,’ you might ask, ‘is the opposite of artificial intelligence?’ To Creative Director Matteo Tamburini, the answer is simple: artisanal intelligence. And for his first men’s collection for Tod’s, he explored this idea in all its beauty.
Focusing on materiality, quality, and classic Italian craftsmanship, the SS25 presentation not only highlighted the timeless elegance of the collection — but also the techniques and thorough human-centred production processes that cannot be replicated, though may be enhanced, by advancing technology. Selecting the highest quality leather with the softest, silkiest, and lightest properties, formulating innovative treatments on precious linens, and focusing on performance as much as visual design, Tamburini introduced an exclusive line of outerwear, bags, and footwear for SS25 that reminded guests of the importance of keeping humanity and the human touch at the forefront of high fashion. Honouring the longstanding technical skills in threat of becoming extinct and proposing a partnership between the artificial and artisanal, Tod’s looks to the future of ‘Made in Italy’ — and invited viewers to contemplate the same.
