The actor guides us through his grooming non-negotiables

In the Ancient Rome of the Spanish star's latest show Those About To Die, skincare and scents aren't top priority, but thankfully, modern times allow him a handful of essentials to keep him feeling his best.

"Epic, bloody and action-packed” is how Pepe Barroso describes his latest project, Those About To Die, out now on Prime Video. The account of the unscrupulous goings-on of Ancient Rome, heavy in gladiator battles and chariot racing, sees the 27-year-old Madrid-hailing Gran Turismobreakout star alongside industry titans like Anthony Hopkins.

And, getting used to working in such close proximity to the man himself was a slightly inconceivable reality. “Something that astonished me was his level of confidence, humbly making the set his,” Barosso tells us. “We were all brought into his world as soon as he stepped in. But what stood out the most was, besides how humble and nice he is, how calm and in control he was.”

Day-to-day grooming routines on-set were lighter in the moisturising, hair tousling and olfactory attention Barroso’s real-life appearance might indicate. “They used to do our hair accordingly, add some dirt on us and that was pretty much it,” he says. Longer stints in the make-up room came on days when blood and wounds came into the equation. “That definitely prolonged the process,” he says. However, dutifully, “I have to highlight the incredible job those departments did,” he says. “How hard they worked to make it look so real, was unbelievable.”

When it comes to his own grooming routine, Barroso has a small but prized selection of rituals he swears by to keep him attending his growing list of professional commitments feeling his best. From his favourite scent, the moisturiser he’ll always depend on and the body care products that are particularly close to home, head below to find out his grooming essentials, now...

Floris Honey Oud Eau de Parfum & Floris N89 Eau de Toilette

“Something I value a lot and I'm quite obsessed with is smells. I am a big fan of perfumes and the way notes that can suggest many things about your personality. These Floris scents are the two I absolutely love from the house. Scents I usually use are formed by certain wooden notes, bergamot, jasmine, honey and tobacco. I enjoy the sensuality and elegance in them.”

Biotherme Aquapower Cream
“I don’t have a very extensive skin care routine, but I am very loyal to this face moisturiser I use. It has a very nice texture and smell.”

Veganis Super Corrective Body Lotion
‘For body care I use this and it’s actually taken from a cosmetic brand I launched quite recently. We started with body care and this is the very lotion that I use. It has a brilliant texture and scent. Shortly, I will be including face and skin care products to form a routine, so I'm sure sooner than later I'll have them included in mine!”
